Call for Poems: Spring 2017 Pasque Petals
The South Dakota State Poetry Society (SDSPS) seeks poems for its Spring 2017 issue of Pasque Petals.
We do not accept previously published work. We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please inform us immediately if your work is accepted somewhere else. Submit up to five poems as well as a brief biography statement of fifty words or less highlighting your primary connection to South Dakota (for example, you live in, were born in, were educated in, or have visited South Dakota) via Submittable. If you are a member of SDSPS, you may submit with no fee; if you are not a member, there is a $3 fee. Membership in SDSPS for one calendar year is $35 and includes free submission to Pasque Petals, copies of all SDSPS publications for that year (Pasque Petals and chapbook contest winner), and discounts on entry fees for the annual contest and the chapbook contest. We will no longer mail out complimentary contributor’s copies of Pasque Petals unless you are a member; copies can be purchased for $10.For more information on membership or to join SDSPS, visit our Membership page. DEADLINE: February 1, 2017 Editor’s note: I favor strong imagery, but I also appreciate good narratives and exceptional use of music (rhythm, rhyme or any repetition of sound) in the poetry I accept for publication. I tend to eschew wordiness and long lines (unless prose poetry) that would make the poem difficult to layout on a page. If you use punctuation in a poem, please use it consistently and correctly per the rules of standard edited English; I do make exceptions for poems that use diction from other dialects of English. I look forward to reading your work!
